Businesses everywhere are sorting out tough problems. But behind the people directly responsible for decisions, there are armies of unlikely characters self-organizing to make things happen. It’s a marvel to witness. Business leaders should pay attention in their own organizations and notice who runs toward the fire. It might not be who you expect.
I asked a colleague how we’d get face shields to medical workers. That colleague introduced me to a few people he thought might know. A distribution process was getting figured out, I was told. But on the first day rolling shields out of the assembly plant, boxes were stacking up. The question became: How do we deliver the masks produced in the first 72 hours while awaiting a more permanent solution?
