We should be gracious and humble to anyone who leaves the Democrat party because it is not (small r) republican enough. That is explicitly or implicitly moving toward the Republican party. We might tolerate or even use a few white lies to soften the trauma of a life-changing decision. Let’s not forget, though, that saying the Democrat party left her is untrue and, in the end, an insult to someone like Tulsi Gabbard. The party she left promoted slavery, protected Jim Crow, and advanced the socialism (sometimes communist, sometimes fascist) of the technocratic, administrative state. The party she left has never respected the principles of the Declaration of independence while the party she moved toward was explicitly founded to advance them. Unfortunately, the Republican party has far too often done fso fecklessly and self-servingly. We Republicans should celebrate her move and strive to be worthy of her courage.
