“All children in California, regardless of immigration status, have a constitutional right to education. We also have a moral obligation to ensure a bright future for our children,” said County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Paul Gothold. “School employees have already been asked to go above and beyond during the pandemic, and we are committed to ensuring every student has access to a quality education while they are in our region.”
I’m sure courts have made such nonsensical rulings, but no, if there is such a thing as a constitutional claim to education, it would be American citizens who could legitimately make such a claim.
However true this may or may not be, only children who are American citizens are “our children.” For all other children someone other citizenry has a moral obligation to ensure their bright future.
First, while it may be true that school employees have been asked, I doubt many families in the San Diego school district believe that school employees have done anything that could even be considered the minimum. Second, the school district has authority to educate only our children. Whatever status these children, they are not our children as they are still citizens of another country.
