What The Right Needs Now Is The Courage To Fight Even If It Costs Us (thefederalist.com)
All of a sudden, the conservative project is not a conservative one, so much as a counter-revolutionary one.
No, it never was a “conservative” movement, project, or anything nor should it have been. It was a republican revolution. There was nothing “conservative” about the founding of our Republic. It was not called the American Revolution for nothing. A generation or so after the founding of our Republic, a reactionary movement developed that coalesced into the Democrat party. Its purpose was, is, and will always be to transform our Republic into a mere Democracy. The founding of the Republican party in 1856 and the Civil War were the first efforts to restore and renew our Republic.
Over the nearly two centuries since, the Democrat party recovered its reactionary zeal while the revolutionary spirit of the Republican party waned. It is time for the republicans of the Republican party to cast off the stultifying complacency of the oxymoron of a “conservative” movement and recover its revolutionary spirit. We are the Party of Lincoln and abolition. It is about time we started acting like it.
